WHY RECLAIM YOUR PRIVACY?

Can you imagine your life without the internet? Neither can we.

Easier question: can you think of ten things you do without using the internet at all?

If you can’t, you’re not alone. From catching up with friends to getting around, working on your health to learning, finding a new relationship -- work or otherwise, and buying everything from groceries to TVs, chances are you use an app.

And it’s likely you can count on your hands, the apps you really use a lot.

The average Indian spends 670 hours on Facebook and 362 hours on Instagram in a year. And so a lot of us feel “#blessed” that we have the internet (and that it’s cheaper in India than anywhere else).

#ReclaimYourPrivacy is an initiative that prepares you for the risks in this digital love story. Like the fact that everything you do when online can be remembered and pieced together to form a persona of you. From the information you share with anyone online, to what you consume off it. General or personal. Trivial or sensitive. Willingly or unwillingly. On the internet, the deck can be stacked against you.

Our proposition is simple: why not attempt to live online like you do in real life? In real life, you choose who knows where you are at any given moment. You decide whom to share your secrets with. When you sell something of yours, like your car, or your art, you set the conditions. When you shut your door, you enjoy the privacy of your home. With agency. With privacy.

And so, we help you take some easy steps to be an empowered internet user. We tell stories that are grounded in facts and help you take quick action. We hope you’ll join us, and invite your friends and family too, as we all build healthier, more mindful relationships with the internet.

#ReclaimYourPrivacy is a joint initiative by 21N78E and Aapti Institute, supported by Omidyar Network India.
